Evaluating poker hands is imperative for any player keen to win the game. It can certainly be a tricky proposition and can even decide the winner and the loser.

To help you sort out the difference between a winning hand and a losing one, it’s worthwhile to get a grip on the different rankings of poker hands.

Let us learn about the various rankings, so we can gain an advantage over our opponents while playing poker.

    Different Poker Hand Rankings

    A. Royal flush

A Royal Flush is the most stylish and powerful hand in Poker games. It is made up of five cards in the same suit that runs from 10 to Ace, such as 10, J, Q, K, and A. The Royal flush is the highest-ranking hand in Poker since it is unbeatable by another hand.

    B. Straight flush

A Straight Flush is the second highest-ranking hand in a Poker game. It is made up of five cards that are all in the same suit and all in sequence, such as 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 of hearts.

    C. Flush

A Flush is the fifth highest-ranking hand in a Poker game. It is made up of five cards that are all in the same suit, such as all diamonds, all spades, or all hearts. It beats a Straight and all other hands except for a Royal Flush, a Straight Flush, a Four of a Kind, and a Full House.

    D. Straight

A Straight is the sixth highest-ranking hand in a Poker game. It is made up of five cards in sequential order, but not necessarily the entire same suit. For example, any of the following would qualify as a Straight: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9, 10, J, Q, K. It beats any three of a kind, a flush, two pair, and one pair.

    E. Three of a Kind

Three of a Kind is the seventh highest-ranking hand in a Poker game. It is made up of three cards of the same rank, such as three 7s, 8s, Kings, or Queens. It beats two pairs, one pair, and any unpaired hand.

    F. Two pair

Two Pair is the eighth highest-ranking hand in a Poker game. It is made up of two pairs of the same rank, such as two 4s and two 9s. It beats any unpaired hand and one pair.

    G. One pair

One Pair is the ninth highest-ranking hand in a Poker game. It is made up of two cards of the same rank, such as two 8s, Kings, or Queens. It beats any unpaired hand.

    H. High card

High Card is the lowest-ranking hand in a Poker game. It is made up of just one card, such as a 7, 8, King, Queen, Ace, etc. It does not beat any other hand.

    Conclusion

Poker is a game that demands players to figure out the value of their own and opponents’ hands. It is very beneficial to know the poker hand rankings, as advantageous to compare how these hands are standing in the game.

Knowing how to evaluate the layout of cards on the table as well as predict what hand could be made out of them is a key factor in being a successful poker player.

Hence, understanding the formation of hands is utmost for increasing the chances of gaining an edge over opponents.
